Save Our Beaches

What's New

On July 16, Environment Rhode Island launched Clean Water Act lawsuits to end pollution at Easton’s Beach, Atlantic Beach Club, King’s Park Beach and Newport Harbor.

Joined by four local residents who have been frustrated by pollution at their favorite beaches and boat launches, Environment Rhode Island’s goal is to end pollution at these iconic coastal treasures.

Background

For hundreds of years Newport’s Beaches and Harbor have been recognized as important natural treasures.

Known for its cool refreshing waters and wonderful swimming beaches, Rhode Island’s coastline is a destination for beachgoers and boaters alike.

But Newport’s Beaches and Harbor are threatened. Over the past five years there have been hundreds of beach closures and swimming advisories issued for these iconic waters, including the permanent closure of King’s Park Beach. These problems are caused by the illegal discharge of inadequately treated sewage and stormwater that originates in the City of Newport and the Town of Middletown.

To save our beaches, Environment Rhode Island is working to end this illegal pollution.
