Cutting energy waste across Rhode Island is a key step in creating a
new energy future, because less waste means less pollution from power
plants that harms public health and contributes to global warming.
Background
To create a Clean Energy Future in Rhode
Island, we need to decrease our dependence on dirty and dangerous
energy sources like coal and nuclear power, and shift to clean
renewable alternatives like wind and solar power.
Wasting less of the energy we produce is one cornerstone of a new
energy future. Cutting energy waste reduces the demands we place on old
dirty power plants, cutting air pollution while also helping to stem
our region's appetite for natural gas.
Environment Rhode Island would particularly like to thank the
following legislators for their personal efforts to make Rhode Island's
first natual gas efficiency program a reality: Senate President
Montalbano, Senate Majority Leader Paiva-Weed, Sen. Walaska, Sen.
Sosnowski, House Speaker Murphy, House Majority Leader Fox, Rep.
Kennedy and Rep. Handy.
